In the past few days we have witnessed an array of different events surrounding the topic of migration in Europe. We continue to see migrants lose their lives in the Mediterranean and Aegean sea in their attempts to reach safety on unsafe vessels, forced to leave their homelands as a result of protracted conflict in Libya, Syria and many other countries. EU member states now agree that the problems confronting Italian, Maltese, Spanish an Greek authorities require a European response and in several recent official meetings, the EU has been focusing more and more on migration with an emphasis on the Mediterranean route.
Let’s take a look at what steps have been taken and what progress we can expect in the near future.
MOAS supports the call for a simpler and more effective mechanisms to handle European migration & continue to encourage all EU member States to commit to the #SafeandLegalRoutes campaign to regulate humane migration and prevent further chaos and fatalities across European borders.
