Yuri Soroka, one of the most remarkable Ukrainian medics working for MOAS, the international humanitarian disruptor, comes to New York today to launch a new book, host a fundraiser with Ukraine donors Whitney Tilson and Robert Glanville, and sustain awareness of Russia’s criminal aggression against Ukraine.
Following his recent UK tour with a group of Ukrainian medics, Yuri will be visiting New York’s Ukrainian Institute of America to mark the publication of Sirens of Hope: The MOAS Mission to Save Lives in Ukraine, a new book showcasing the heroic work performed by the organisation’s all-Ukrainian team of 150 medics.
Yuri, one of the fourteen characters featured in the book, will talk passionately about the day-to-day brutality and horrors of the Russian invasion, the traumatic conditions on the medical frontline and the horrifying conduct of Russian forces.
“It’s a privilege to come to New York to share the stories of our frontline medics who are saving so many lives,” says Yuri. “The US is at the vanguard of Ukraine’s fight for freedom against the dark forces of Russian imperialism. I thank the US and my fellow Americans for their great generosity in Ukraine’s hour of need. And I would emphasise that the war goes on, Russian war crimes continue on a daily basis and so we must continue our support, too. We must not let up until Ukraine is free.”
Yuri is a Ukrainian-American critical care nurse who has served two tours with MOAS. He has taken extended leave from his hospital job in Georgia, US, to serve his country on the medical frontline. Anticipating the full-scale Russian invasion of 2022, he qualified in combat medicine, jumped on a flight to Warsaw and found his way to MOAS.
