As the world steps into 2026, we want to remember the impact of MOAS’s work during 2025. From medical evacuations in Ukraine to aid deliveries in Sudan, MOAS continues to deliver hope, supporting those in need in challenging regions of the world. Moreover, we can never forget where everything started: our home, Malta. Here, we continued our social inclusion activities by holding English classes, sessions for children, and events such as Refugee Week.
Our work has one unique purpose: to provide relief to those who are most vulnerable, wherever they are.
Let’s start to go through our year, side by side with our amazing supporters.
Ukraine
February 24, 2025: 3 years of war. On that day, the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine started. From that moment on, millions of people will find themselves in need of humanitarian assistance.
MOAS has been active in Ukraine since the start of the conflict, guided by our core value: every life has worth. Our primary mission in Ukraine is to evacuate from the frontlines, safely transporting critically injured soldiers and civilians to the nearest hospitals, while providing life-saving care during the transport.
We started in 2022 and never stopped: our teams, made by 150 medical staff and drivers, all Ukrainians, and our 50 ambulances, saved around 15.000 lives throughout 2025 only, reaching more than 70.000 people saved.
Our work is hitting a rough patch: this mission, which never lost a single life, costs around $ 1 million each month. This is why the need for support remains critical, even if MOAS remains committed to keeping this vital mission going. More than ever, we need your support. DRR on paper
Since 2019, MOAS has delivered Flood and Water Safety Training and Fire Response Training to refugees and host community volunteers in Cox’s Bazar, one of the world’s largest refugee camps, located in Bangladesh.
For the past years, MOAS has been a silent observer of the training. At the core of our work, called “Locally Integrated Approach”, is the independence of the trainers so that they can continue without our presence.
Years of this mission are gathered in our latest publication, “From Field To Framework,” a wise guide that explains how our mission started and everything we learnt from this experience. You can read it for free at this link.
Art for Raising Awareness: Our Multimedia Fundraising Project “Hope Under Fire”
Discussing complex topics such as conflicts and loss of life can be overwhelming, but necessary. Sometimes our work can’t be described by words only: a MOAS-made multimedia fundraising project to show what it means to carry out our mission in Ukraine became fundamental for a better understanding of the whole situation.
This is why “Hope Under Fire” was born. The producers, both from Malta, Neil Camilleri and Giuseppe Attard, developed this work as a tribute and a call to action, raising vital awareness and funds to support MOAS’s ongoing mission.
It focuses on a three-person MOAS crew, anaesthesiologist Inna Demiter, paramedic Nataliia Kapytsia, and ambulance driver Ihor Mischuk, as they hurry to evacuate critically injured Ukrainian soldiers from the Zaporizhzhia frontline in eastern Ukraine.
The project was first screened in Valletta, Malta, on May the 5th, at Aula Prima, University of Malta – Valletta Campus.
You can watch it on YouTube at this link: to understand the war in Ukraine, start by learning more about the people living there.
Refugee Week: Community as a Super-Power
Refugee Week is an arts and culture festival celebrating the resilience of refugees. This year, it was held in Malta from the 14th to the 22nd of June.
What a week it was! As MOAS honours refugees and migrants from around the world, we participated in this important festival to show our support for the community.
Our week started with Lingo Bingo in collaboration with Blue Door Education; what is it, you may ask… Lingo Bingo is a fun, easy and fast way to learn new languages. Between Arabic, Maltese, Ukrainian and English, people had the chance to interact with each other, socialising and learning a new language at the same time. What a fun experience it was!

We all know food brings people together; that’s why our next event, in collaboration with the Migrant Women Association, was all about cooking. Participants learned to prepare dishes from diverse cultural traditions, including Syrian Fatira and Baklava, Pakistani Chicken Pulao, and Mexican Tortas. Sharing a recipe is not only about cooking: it’s about sharing heritage, memory, and identity, without borders and differences.
11 Years of Saving Lives: MOAS’s birthday
On August 25th 2025, MOAS celebrated 11 years of supporting those most vulnerable. From our medical evacuations in Ukraine, to the aid deliveries in Sudan, our remarkable work is unstoppable thanks to our amazing donors, who always believe in us and our skills.
MOAS has evolved over these eleven years; flexibility and readiness are core values.
One thing has not changed: our commitment to stand with those affected by crisis. As our Director of Operations and Fundraising Christina Lejman stated: “11 years of courage, compassion, and commitment”.
We are deeply grateful to our incredible donors and supporters; without their help, we would not be able to sustain our mission.
Our community is always looking for new supporters; join us in our journey. Keep our work steady: donate to MOAS.
Mission Of Hope: Our Aid Deliveries
Since 2019 in Yemen, through our Missions of Hope, we have delivered almost 400 tonnes of life-saving therapeutic food and vital medical supplies.
The mission targets acute malnutrition among children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
For the past 6 years, we have been active in three different countries: Yemen, where we started, Somalia and Sudan.
Our efforts have been enormously successful, thanks to several collaborations with our partners: Edesia, Medeor, Adra, UNHCR and International Medical Corps Somalia.
We want to conclude this year’s mission with promising, heartfelt news: MOAS’s latest shipment of therapeutic food to Sudan is almost at its final destination. With this shipment, around 3.000 people will receive assistance, from preventive school nutrition to emergency treatment for severe acute malnutrition.
We are proud to share this update with you, in line with the core value of our Missions Of Hope: it’s not only food, but it’s also humanity and dignity for all.
Active in Our Own Home: Our Work in Malta
Malta is where everything started: from our foundation in 2014 to our current work, we are deeply committed to ensuring the well-being of the Island’s migrant community.
Our projects are mainly focused on education and social inclusion; in 2024 we renewed a room in Hal Far Hangar Open Centre to create a Learning Centre (in collaboration with Awas).
We use this room for different activities. Firstly, entertainment for kids, including movie nights, Arts and Crafts, dance sessions, and board games.
In September 2025, we began our English classes, serving all levels (from beginner to advanced). During these sessions, we combine fun and education, doing games, conversation and more.
MOAS strongly supports the idea that education must be accessible to everyone, because knowledge of English can empower our students and enable them to work, connect, and improve.
Youth in Motion: 2025’s European Solidarity Corps (ESC) Program
For the past years, we have been welcoming ESC volunteers; in 2025, three bright volunteers joined our team: Camilla (Italy), Silvia (Italy) and Alessia (Italy), are our newest members of the communications and fundraising teams. With amazing ideas and genuine passion for our missions, our great volunteers bring new perspectives and remind us every day of the importance of our commitment to humanitarian work.

In addition to that, this year MOAS was awarded the European Solidarity Corps Quality Label, a certification granted by the European Commission to organisations that demonstrate the ability to provide safe, inclusive, and high-quality volunteering or solidarity opportunities for young people.
Moreover, MOAS PR & Communication Manager, Francesca Pierpaoli, travelled to Luxembourg in May to attend the YouthFirst – Fostering Mental Health and Well-Being in Youth Work training. This experience was fundamental to learn how understanding mental health from a youth perspective helps us speak more empathetically and responsibly about their challenges.
Finally, our Fundraising and Development Officer, Albert Delia, attended the training course “ESC: Empower, Stay Afloat, Carry On” in Trento, Italy; funded by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) and organized by Associazione InCo, this training addressed a critical aspect of volunteer management: maintaining high motivation among volunteers without compromising the mental health and stability of the support staff (mentors and coordinators).
Our Future’s Plan
2025 brought its own challenges: a funding shortage, humanitarian crises, and more. However, MOAS never gave up; we adapted and kept fighting.
Nothing we did this year would be possible without our strong network of supporters, partners and our fantastic team. We are deeply grateful to each one of you, for believing in us and for supporting us in our mission to provide aid and hope to those afflicted by conflicts and crises.
Now sit down and relax: we will bring you along for our 2026’s adventure.
