PR & Communication Officer

Malta Based 

Department: PR/Communications

Reports to: Head of Department  

Remuneration: 17,000 Euros gross p.a., full time

Job Summary:

The PR/Communications Officer will support the manager, actively contributing to implementing communication strategies and projects. Tasks within the Communications Department will be related to providing support on various platforms and media. Editing and writing comms materials will be part of the job, as long as social media planning, strategic input, advocacy, content creation, and proofreading. He/She will also monitor media and campaign coverage and attend internal and external events.

Key Duties:

  • Assisting the communications manager with the management of the NGO’s external image.
  • Drafting and editing communications copy and material (publications/magazine, social media posts, statements, blog articles)
  • Volunteer coordination and monitoring, particularly in relation to comms materials and communication calendar, social media planning etc
  • Preparing presentations and reports.
  • Help in organising comms materials for fundraising and networking events
  • Drafting and posting social media and web content according to the media strategy
  • Tracking projects and media exposure.
  • Updating media lists and database
  • Organise the archiving of digital materials and supervise their use
  • Proofreading and edit English texts/materials
  • Work with the comms team on PR and media activities, including preparation for speaking events and talking points for media.
  • Support the MOAS organisation with other duties as they arise

Key Attributes

  • Must be an English native
  • Must be based in Malta
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • Understanding of media relations and digital media strategies
  • Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with design software (e.g. Photoshop, Canva) and content management systems (WordPress) is a plus
  • Solid editing and proofreading skills
  • Work experience with an NGO focussing on humanitarian aid is an asset
  • Degree in politics, communications, international relations, international development or journalism or equivalent experience working in a relevant field.
  • An in-depth understanding of the field of migration
  • The use of image editing and graphic tools, such as Canva, is desirable
  • Excellent ability to thrive in a sometimes stressful, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Willing to travel for work if needed
  • A good team player and able to work with people at all levels
  • Flexible to changes and shows the ability to adapt to situations as/when they arise
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated technical skills for the development, production and delivery of online content
  • Ability to tell compelling stories through online platforms for delivery on MOAS channels
  • Interview and cultural mediation skills are a plus
