“The survival of my nation and my people is at stake.” MOAS medic Yuriy Soroka leads UK tour to meet ministers, parliamentarians and the mayor of London

Yuriy Soroka, one of the most remarkable Ukrainian medics working for MOAS, the international humanitarian disruptor, arrives in London today as part of a UK tour to raise and sustain awareness of Russia’s devastating aggression against Ukraine.

Yuriy is visiting London to mark the publication of Sirens of Hope: The MOAS Mission to Save Lives in Ukraine, a new book showcasing the heroic work performed by the organisation’s all-Ukrainian team, a part of the Ukraine Solidarity Project’s UK campaign.

Yuriy is one of the fourteen characters featured in the book and will also be meeting UK ministers, parliamentarians, officials and the mayor of London. He will talk passionately about the day-to-day brutality and horrors of the Russian invasion, the traumatic conditions on the medical frontline and the horrifying conduct of Russian forces.

“The survival of my nation and my people in this unjust war is at stake here,” says Yuriy. “The West decided not to abandon Ukraine, but to help us fight for our lives. Without that help, the amount of trauma would have been unbearable. Free people will always fight for their freedom better than slaves fighting for their masters.”

Yuriy is a Ukrainian-American critical care nurse who has served two tours with MOAS. He has taken extended leave from his hospital job in Georgia, US, to serve his country on the medical frontline. Anticipating the full-scale Russian invasion of 2022, he qualified in combat medicine, jumped on a flight to Warsaw and found his way to MOAS.
