MOAS’ Plans for 2024

The start of a new year is always an opportunity for the MOAS team to reflect on the programs and activities we are undertaking, take stock of our strategies and update our approach. We engage in an extensive series of conversations and brainstorming sessions with partners, field teams, consultants, and management teams to establish a path ahead for the coming year. This year, 2024, is a little different. The process takes on a new significance level because we celebrate MOAS’ 10th anniversary. In addition to our regular humanitarian activities and interventions, we are also scheduling in several events throughout the year, highlighting the work we have done, the beneficiaries we have reached, the things we have learned and the many stories that have inspired us all along the way.

2024 will see MOAS rededicate itself to its core function as a rapid response humanitarian organization. Our priority will be to develop interventions that efficiently and effectively fill gaps, target emergent crises, and generate sustainable and measurable impacts on the communities we serve. MOAS is restructuring its team and refocusing our programming to ensure we engage in activities that maximize our unique and innovative technical and methodological resources. Our entrepreneurial ethos offers donors and partners transparency and accountability at every level of our operations.

The Ukraine mission will continue unchanged, with our fleet of over 50 emergency vehicles responding to trauma victims on the contact line, manned by 150 highly skilled medics and drivers. We will also keep up the partnership with RMCH House Charities Latvia to run a mobile medical unit providing primary healthcare to civilians cut off from health infrastructure across the country. This project has reached over 60,000 patients thus far, and we are committed to treating as many more as need our services for as long as possible.

Our technical advisors will continue to streamline and tailor our emergency response planning and disaster risk reduction activities to ensure our flood and water safety and fire response activities continue to build capacity in crisis-affected communities, as well as provide a fully prepared deployment capability to respond in periods of particular need. These programs are adapted to each crisis context, ensuring ecological validity, and designed with inbuilt flexibility and feedback mechanisms to allow them to develop and grow in real-time, mirroring the needs and characteristics of any specific incident backdrop.

MOAS prides itself on reducing duplication and waste in its programming by partnering with suppliers, manufacturers and operational partners to create a comprehensive and robust network of stakeholders, all working together to contribute to delivering essential aid to challenging access points, reaching beneficiary communities otherwise isolated from humanitarian interventions. 2024 will see MOAS embark on a relationship renewal process, re-establishing collective commitments and raising expectations on partners to increase the scope and scale of our delivery activities. Target communities in Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and beyond will benefit from these activities as we widen our net and deepen our relationship in service of those who need it most.

With this backdrop of programs and operations, MOAS plans to embellish the tapestry of our year by adding opportunities for celebration and reflection as part of our 10th Anniversary celebrations. We plan to host several fundraising events, awareness-raising campaigns, and panel discussions, as well as release a book highlighting our Ukrainian front-line team and a publication of best practice standards based on lessons learned during our years of ERP and DRR practices.

We hope our global community of supporters and followers will join us on our journey this year, participating in events and campaigns, donating to our life-saving operations, and joining our network of stakeholders to amplify our delivery wherever you can.
